You'll need the DNA Breeder to combine multiple genes to one fully functional DNA segment. Because the segments for various abilities are different, they require a different amount of basic DNA segments. Segments of the same type will count as two basic segments. As every machine it requires energy to run. See energy supply for more information on how to power machines. DO NOT PUT UN-USEABLE CELLS IN THE DNA BREEDER. It crashed my launcher and corrupted my minecraft world.
